INTERNING WITH A LOCAL CAFE : REAL WORLD META ADS EXPERIENCE

During my recent digital marketing internship with a local coffee café, I had the opportunity to apply what I’ve learned in the classroom to a real business environment. The café, known for its cozy atmosphere and creative coffee-themed posts, gave me a chance to explore how social media and digital presence directly impact local customer engagement.

One of my main responsibilities involved supporting their Instagram marketing efforts. We focused on creating light-hearted, relatable content that matched the café’s friendly brand voice. I contributed ideas for posts that blended humor with coffee culture — a combination that helped drive strong engagement on Instagram.

To extend reach, we ran several Instagram ad campaigns using Meta Ads Manager. These were primarily boosted posts aimed at increasing visibility and link clicks. Over the course of a few weeks, the ads generated over 16,000 views, 10,000+ reach, and more than 160 link clicks. With budgets ranging from just €4 to €60, we saw how even small investments in targeted ads could produce measurable results.

Beyond Instagram, I also assisted in optimizing the café’s Google My Business profile — improving their local search presence by updating images, store hours, and keywords. Additionally, I helped enhance their IG bio and visual layout to better reflect the café’s identity and offerings.

This hands-on experience taught me the importance of consistent branding, audience insight, and tracking performance metrics. It also highlighted how small businesses can benefit from simple digital strategies when they are tailored to their audience and backed by basic analytics.

I’m grateful for the chance to work on real campaigns and learn through doing — and I’m looking forward to applying these lessons to future roles in digital marketing and social media strategy.
